Professional Requirements

 

Key roles of the pathologist

To provide teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students at the school of medicine and health sciences, research and publications. In addition, provide histopathology, cytopathology, autopsy services and support medical microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, Hematology and blood transfusion laboratory services and demonstrations at a teaching and referral hospital.

Responsibilities

  1. Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students
  2. Supervise research projects for undergraduate and post graduate students
  3. Grant proposal writing and implementation of the projects
  4. Identify topical areas of research and publication in line with the mission and vision of TUM and developing manuscripts for publications
  5. Provide surgical and cytopathology services in collaboration with the staff at the teaching and referral hospital
  6. Organize for laboratory accreditation, audits, and continuous improvement and
  7. ensure quality assurance, SOP compliance, and participation in internal and external quality assurance schemes.
  8. Organize and facilitate MDT tumour boards collaboration with the teaching hospital and departmental CPD meetings from time to time.
  9. Supervise pathology related activities at the University research lab from time to time
  10. Teach and mentor trainees, staff and fellow researchers

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
  2. MMed in Human Pathology or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
  3. Sub-specialty training (e.g., onco-pathology, cytopathology or molecular pathology) will be an added advantage.
  4. Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  5. Recognition as a specialist/sub-specialist by KMPDC.
  6. Retention in the KMPDC register.
  7. Valid Practice License from KMPDC.
  8. Valid Indemnity Cover.
  9. Proficiency in computer applications.

Experience

At least three (3) years of teaching in a school of medicine at the level of a lecturer

Publications

At least three (3) publications or two (2) publications book in a peer reviewed journal and one since the last promotion.
